Breakfast On The Seashore
Text: John 21: 8 - 10
BREAKFAST ON THE SEASHORE
How gracious and loving the Lord Jesus was to His disciples. He knew them so well. He knew their weaknesses and yet continued to care for them so patiently.
“But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, ‘Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.’”
John 21:8-10
1. “But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish”
a. The little boat
i. It was large enough to carry all seven fishermen.
ii. Six of them stayed in the boat and dragged the net that was full of fish.
b. Two hundred cubits
i. This would be about 300 feet.
ii. It was not too far to swim for Peter.
2. Breakfast prepared
a. A fire of coals
This would be a very welcome sight to behold.
b. Fish and bread
That would have been a very nice hot breakfast.
3. “Jesus said to them, ‘Bring some of the fish which you have just caught’”
a. This was a relevant word.
b. It was very uplifting to have this bit of time with their beloved Teacher.
LIKE OLD TIMES
We can imagine that such a scene was not an uncommon experience. It was like “old times”.
1. The Lord Jesus with His disciples.
2. He would eat with them.
3. They would have good fellowship together.
4. How refreshing those times must have been.
There was no word of rebuke of the disciples at all. His gentle presence was to be truly treasured!
