A MOST HISTORIC MOMENT IN ISRAEL’S HISTORY

1. God would reveal Himself to Israel

2. He would speak to them

3. He would take them as His people

a) A special treasure   (Exodus 19:5)

b) A kingdom of priests   (Exodus 19:6a)

c) A holy nation   (Exodus 19:6b)

4. He would give them His Laws

GOD’S MANIFESTATION AT MOUNT SINAI

1. “I come to you in a thick cloud”   (Exodus 19:9)

2. There were thunderings and lightnings,
And a thick cloud on the mountain   (Exodus 19:16)

3. Mount Sinai was completely in smoke   (Exodus 19:18a)
Its smoke ascended like smoke of a furnace

4. The LORD descended upon it in fire   (Exodus 19:18b)

5. The whole mountain quaked greatly   (Exodus 19:18c)

RESPONSE OF THE PEOPLE

1. All the people witnessed:

a) The thunderings

b) The lightning flashes

c) The sound of the trumpet

d) The mountain smoking

2. The people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off   (Exodus 20:18)

3. They said to Moses

a) You speak with us

b) And we will hear

c) But let not God speak with us, lest we die   (Exodus 20:19)

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM MOSES

1. Do not fear

2. For God has come to test you

3. And that His fear may be before you

4. So that you may not sin

SUMMARY OF THIS SPECIAL HISTORIC EVENT

1. The glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai

2. And the cloud covered it six days   (Exodus 24:16)

3. The sight of the glory of the LORD
Was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain
In the eyes of the children of Israel   (Exodus 24:217)
