My Song In The Night (Genesis)
Text: Genesis 1: 14-19; Psalm 74: 16-17
MEDITATION
Genesis 1:14-19
14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;
15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.
16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.
17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth,
18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Psalm 74:16-17
16 The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have prepared the light and the sun.
17 You have set all the borders of the earth; You have made summer and winter.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The creation of the sun, moon, and stars
a. They were made to support the other things God created.
b. Additional ideas:
i. They were for signs,
ii. And for seasons.
iii. For the calculation of days and years.
2. Knowledge of God applied (Psalm 74)
a. The Psalmist Asaph used his knowledge of God in prayer.
b. He meditated on the LORD as Creator.
c. He went on to appeal to God to deliver His people from oppression.
d. The LORD has awesome powers and He can bring that to deal with wickedness.
APPROPRIATE RESPONSE
Let the knowledge of God as Creator move us to pray with both faith and hope. There is much evil in the world. Let us pray that God will deliver His people from evil oppressors!
