We Are His Workmanship

THE WORK OF SALVATION

Salvation is something that we can never earn. It is a wonderful entity that God has given to us by means of grace and faith.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9

The word “for” in Greek is the conjunction “gar”. It is meant to express inference. What is being inferred is that we do not deserve to be saved because we were once dead in sin (Ephesians 2:1). And yet it is by grace through faith that we have been given salvation.

1. IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF WHO WE ARE

Salvation is a gift from God and we need to humbly receive it.

2. IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF THE WORKS WE HAVE DONE

No one can boast in this work of salvation in their life. Salvation is especially a work of God.

THE WORK OF GOD IN OUR LIFE

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10

Beyond the work of salvation, there is the work that the Lord is doing specifically in our lives. We are meant to be His workmanship. The word “workmanship” is the Greek word “poema.” This is where we derive the English word “poem” from.

1. GOD’S PROCESS OF WORKING

A. CREATED IN CHRIST JESUS

There is the idea of a new creation involved. God is creating something new within our lives as He works in our lives. He is composing something beautiful in our lives when we have faith in the Lord Jesus.

B. WE ARE THE WORK OF HIS HAND

God’s great wisdom and skill would be seen in how He works in our lives. There would be the power of God in transforming us.

2. GOD’S PLAN FOR US TO DO GOOD WORKS

A. FOR GOOD WORKS

One of the reasons why God works in us is for the purpose of doing good works. We need the Lord to work within us before we can do good works.

B. WHICH GOD PREPARED BEFOREHAND

God had planned beforehand that we should do good works with love for others. He had appointed us to be a blessing to others.

C. THE GOAL TO WALK IN GOOD WORKS

Not only should we start doing good works to others. It should become a way of life.

PERSONAL APPLICATION

Thank God for the Lord’s blessings at Youth Conference 2019. The Lord has indeed brought a special sense of joy in the hearts of all of us. Even as the Lord has begun a work within us, let’s seek to be all that God meant us to be. Let’s have this sense of purpose to do good works during the Christmas time. Let’s seek to walk in them as a way of life.
