My Song In The Night (Genesis)
我夜间的歌曲《创世记》
Text: Genesis 8: 1-5
MEDITATION
Genesis 8:1-5
1 Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided.
2 The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were also stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained.
3 And the waters receded continually from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased.
4 Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat.
5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. God remembering Noah
a. This does not mean that God had forgotten Noah and his family.
b. This is God recalling consciously Noah in the ark.
c. It is an uplifting word that reminds us that God is thinking of those who trust Him.
All the animals were in God’s mind too.
2. God took action
a. He made a wind to pass over the earth.
b. The storm clouds were driven away by the wind.
c. The waters began to recede as well.
This was a long process.
3. Mount Ararat
a. Some think that this is in Armenia because there is a volcanic mountain there called Mount Ararat.
b. Others think that the word Ararat describes a very wide region.
c. The actual location is impossible to specify.
END OF THE GREAT FLOOD
What is the point of this powerful narrative?
1. We must not indulge in sin.
2. Sin would lead to ultimate judgment from God.
3. The challenge is to live righteously as Noah did.
