THE LORD’S GRACIOUS WORK IN OUR LIFE
At Youth Conference 2019, Pastor spoke to us about God’s continuing work in our faith and life. He taught us concerning how the Lord can do a definite work of strengthening us. This was Peter’s wish for those who were part of the Dispersion.
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.” 1 Peter 5:10
1. It is going to take the Lord’s grace to do this work
Peter was conscious that the Lord is the God of all grace. He is a most gracious God. It is His grace that would bring about this work strengthening the lives of God’s people.
2. It is going to take the Lord’s calling to spur us on
Peter also reminded the people that it is God who had called them to His eternal glory. The focus in life should be heaven rather than the things of world. This sense of calling should drive us on.
THE PEREFECTING WORK OF THE LORD
After you have suffered a while, perfect…” 1 Peter 5:10
The word “perfect” in Greek is the word “Katartizo”. Despite the persecution that the Christians were facing then, the Lord was still going to work and perfect their lives. How do we understand this idea of perfecting?
1. Recognising that there are weaknesses in our life
There are weaknesses in our life that need to be dealt with. We have to examine our life and to recognise our weaknesses; areas that are sinful, weak and broken.
2. Seeing the need for the Lord to mend our life.
The word “Katartizo” in this context has the idea of mending our life. He is the one that can fix the weak areas in our life. The Lord has to do this work of restoring us.
3. Learning to keep working on our life.
While the Lord would do His part in mending our life, we need to do our part in working on the areas that are weak. Let’s identify them, work on them and continue to do so. Let’s pray for the Lord to perfect our life.
