MEDITATION
Genesis 15: 9-10, 12-13
9 So He said to him, “Bring Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”
10 Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and placed each piece opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds in two.
12 Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him.
13 Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. A special offering given to the LORD
a. The offering that God asked for was special indeed.
b. There was no parallel mentioned in any other texts in the Bible.
2. The arrangement of the sacrificial animals
a. The animal pieces were placed on two sides, opposite each other.
b. There would be an aisle between the sacrificial animal pieces.
3. A deep sleep
a. The preparation itself would be very tiring work.
b. Keeping the vultures away throughout the day would also be a drain on strength.
Abram fell into a deep sleep when night came.
4. A great sense of horror and darkness
a. This was felt by Abram.
b. This was a vision of the suffering of his descendants.
5. A prophetic word from the LORD (I)
a. The descendants of Abram would one day dwell in a foreign land.
b. And they would experience affliction for four hundred years.

10 亚伯兰就取了这些来,每样劈开分成两半,一半对着一半地摆列,只有鸟没有劈开。
12日头正落的时候,亚伯兰沉沉地睡了,忽然有惊人的大黑暗落在他身上。13耶和华对亚伯兰说:“你要的确知道,你的后裔必寄居别人的地,又服侍那地的人,那地的人要苦待他们四百年。
