LET ME NOT BE ASHAMED
One big problem that causes shame in our life is our sins. Transgression often makes us stray from the Lord and it would lead us to feeling ashamed. This was also one of the concerns of the Psalmist.
To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul. O My God, I trust in You; let me not be ashamed…” Psalm 25:1-2
Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed…” Psalm 25:3
The context of this Psalm was one of dealing with enemies who dealt treacherously with him and wanted to get the better of him. His sins compounded the problems he faced. It hindered his prayers and affected his relationship with God. His enemies who were already there brought even more distress to him. He was deeply troubled and afflicted (Psalm 25:16-17). In times like this, King David sought the Lord in prayer and trusted in Him. He prayed most urgently that He would not let him be ashamed. He pleaded with the Lord for mercy as he learnt to wait on Him.
PRAYING FOR THE LORD TO SHOW US HIS WAYS
Show me Your ways, O LORD;…” Psalm 25:4
In the midst of this, one of the things that King David prayed for was guidance and direction.
1. The way of the Lord
There is the righteous way of the Lord that is in contrast to the unrighteous way of man and the world.
2. Understanding the general ways of the Lord
Within the way of the Lord, there is the need to understand the general ways of the Lord. The ways of the Lord are justice, righteousness and graciousness. Moses had taught the people of Israel all the ways of the Lord (Deut. 5:33). This is basically the general will of God
3. Praying for the Lord to show us His ways
David did not take for granted that he already knew the ways of the Lord. He humbly asked the Lord to show him His ways. He wanted the Lord reveal to him His ways.
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
I personally use this verse in my prayer from time to time. I do not take it for granted that I already know all the ways of the Lord. It is my personal prayer that the Lord would continue to show me His ways. Especially with this growing concern of CORVID-19 outbreak, it is important for us to seek the Lord to show us His ways and not be troubled. Let’s make this our daily prayer to the Lord.
