Text: Genesis 22: 9-10
MEDITATION
Genesis 22:9-10
9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.
10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. At the designated place in Mount Moriah
a. Abraham had taken a long journey from his home to Mount Moriah.
b. It was at least a three-day journey.
c. Abraham resolutely sought to obey God fully.
2. Building of an altar
a. This was something that Abraham had done many times before.
b. He placed the wood in order.
3. Isaac
a. Abraham bound Isaac.
b. It must also be said that Isaac allowed himself to be bound.
c. He would be big and strong enough to resist Abraham for he had carried the wood for the burnt offering.
4. Offering Isaac
a. Abraham stretched out his hand.
b. He took the knife.
c. He was prepared to slay his own son and offer him as a burnt offering to God.
5. The faith of Abraham
a. It was sorely tested.
b. He was truly obedient! He had chosen to obey God as fully as possible.
