Text: Genesis 24: 19-21
MEDITATION
Genesis 24:19-21
19 And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.”
20 Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
21 And the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Two parts were presented to God in prayer
a. That the prospective bride for Isaac would be kind and gracious to a stranger.
This seemed to be fulfilled when Rebekah appeared on the scene and spoke to the chief steward.
b. The second part was even more challenging.
She would have to offer to give water to quench the thirst of 10 thirsty camels.
2. Rebekah politely waited for the chief steward to finish drinking before speaking further
a. She offered to draw water for the camels until their thirst was quenched.
b. Thirsty camels can drink lots of water!
3. Drawing water for the camels
a. She emptied her pitcher first into the drinking trough.
b. She ran to the well and drew water (enthusiasm and energy were obvious).
c. She drew enough water for all 10 thirsty camels.
4. The chief steward
a. He wondered at what Rebekah had done.
b. Both parts of his prayer were answered directly.
c. Could this indeed be the LORD’S kindness shown to Abraham his master?
