Text: Genesis 26: 10-11
MEDITATION
Genesis 26:10-11
10 And Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might soon have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us.”
11 So Abimelech charged all his people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Abimelech’s word to Isaac
a. It was a word of reprimand.
b. One of his people may have lain with Rebekah.
c. That would be wrong and there would be guilt placed on the Philistines.
d. The lie of Isaac:
i. It was uncalled for.
ii. It placed a snare on the people of Abimelech.
iii. What Isaac did was wrong and he deserved this rebuke!
2. Abimelech’s word to his people
a. He gave a strong word of warning to his people.
b. Whoever touched Rebekah would be put to death.
3. Abimelech’s character
a. He may have been a Philistine.
b. But he had good moral principles.
c. He ruled his people very strictly.
d. He showed courage in confronting Isaac.
4. Isaac’s character in contrast
a. He was weaker.
b. He thought more of himself than Rebekah.
c. But he was humble enough to accept the rebuke that Abimelech gave him.
