MEDITATION
Genesis 26:22-23
22 And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So he called its name Rehoboth, because he said, “For now the LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”
23 Then he went up from there to Beersheba.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Moving to yet another location
a. Isaac chose to move away from quarrelsome and hostile neighbours.
b. He sought to avoid any unnecessary conflict that could result in bloodshed.
2. The location of the wells
a. Each location was quite far from each other.
b. Each time Isaac moved from one locale to another, it must have been a very great hassle for the hundreds of people associated with him.
3. The third well
a. Once again, another well was dug successfully.
b. This time, there was no dispute.
c. Isaac called the well, “Rehoboth” which means “open space”.
4. Isaac’s comment
a. It was a significant word uttered.
b. His mention of the LORD means that he held fast to his faith.
c. He had trusted that God would protect and provide adequately.
d. There was confidence that they would be fruitful in the future.
5. To Beersheba
a. Isaac was back to familiar territory.
b. This was where Abraham had traversed before. That must have brought comfort.
