Text: Genesis 26: 24-25
MEDITATION
Genesis 26:24-25
24 And the LORD appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abraham’s sake.”
25 So he built an altar there and called on the name of the LORD, and he pitched his tent there; and there Isaac’s servants dug a well.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. A special appearance from the LORD
a. Isaac received a special visit from the LORD God.
b. An assuring word was given:
i. The LORD assured Isaac that He was the God of Abraham his father.
ii. He would be with Isaac amidst the hostility from the Philistines.
iii. There was no need to fear the threats of enemies.
iv. He would bless Isaac.
v. He would multiply his descendants.
vi. All of the above uttered would be kept for the sake of Abraham.
2. Appropriate response of Isaac
a. Like his father Abraham, Isaac raised an altar.
b. He called upon the name of the LORD and offered worship.
3. Pitching of a tent
a. Isaac need not move from place to place out of fear of the Philistines.
b. He would stay where he was in Beersheba without fear.
c. He would indeed place his faith in God and in what he had said.
4. Digging of a well
a. Isaac’s servants dug a well there and they were successful.
b. The availability of water was a good and encouraging sign to remain there.
