Text: Genesis 29: 13-14
MEDITATION
Genesis 29:13-14
13 Then it came to pass, when Laban heard the report about Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. So he told Laban all these things.
14 And Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” And he stayed with him for a month.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Laban’s response
a. He heard Rachel’s story.
b. Jacob was his own nephew.
c. He felt he must give Jacob a warm welcome.
i. He ran to meet Jacob.
ii. He embraced him.
iii. He gave him a kiss (familial kiss).
iv. He brought him to his home.
2. Jacob’s account
a. He may not have disclosed all the details.
b. But he would have spoken of his mother.
3. Laban’s further response
a. He received Jacob well.
b. Jacob was “family”.
i. He was “bone and flesh”.
ii. This was an expression that reminds us of what Adam said to Eve: “Bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh” (Genesis 2:23).
4. Jacob in the home of Laban
a. Jacob stayed with Laban for a month.
b. The LORD had provided for him as He had promised (Genesis 28:13-15).
