Text: Genesis 29: 21-24
MEDITATION
Genesis 29:21-24
21 Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.”
22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast.
23 Now it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to Jacob; and he went in to her.
24 And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Jacob’s request
a. He had fulfilled his days (seven years).
b. He wished to be married.
c. He expected Laban to honour his word.
2. Laban
a. He gathered all the men (relatives and friends).
b. A marriage feast was held to celebrate the marriage.
3. In the mind of Jacob, things were going as planned
a. He was getting married to Rachel.
b. He was looking forward to spending his life with Rachel.
c. He had loved her very deeply all this while.
4. Giving Leah away
a. Laban gave Leah to be the wife of Jacob, instead of Rachel.
b. He also gave Leah a maid called Zilpah, as a marriage present.
5. Jacob did not know that Laban had given him Leah as his wife
a. The brides were veiled in those days.
b. They did not have electricity and the tents could be very dark.
c. Jacob had assumed that he had married Rachel for whom he had worked for seven long years.

22 拉班就摆设筵席,请齐了那地方的众人。
23 到晚上,拉班将女儿利亚送来给雅各,雅各就与她同房。24 拉班又将婢女悉帕给女儿利亚做使女。
