“I Will Love You, O Lord, My Strength…”

A PERSONAL DECLARATION OF LOVE FOR THE LORD
King David was unashamed when it came to declaring his love for the Lord. He boldly wrote of His love for the Lord. He personally determined that he was going to love Him.
I will love You, O Lord, my strength…” Psalm 18:1
As we read these words, we sense that his heart is full of deep love for God. He must have been deeply moved by the Lord and His faithfulness to him. He could not help but write these 50 verses in testimony of his love for Him.
A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OF A GOD OF STRENGTH AND MORE
I will love You, O Lord, my strength….” Psalm 18:1
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold ” Psalm 18:2
King David took time to reflect over the years concerning the Lord God and what He had done for him. He was able to deeply appreciate how God had been a great and merciful God to him. In times when there were near-death experiences and in seemingly overwhelming situations, the Lord was his source of strength. When he was greatly distressed at Ziklag and his own men wanted to stone him, he was able to strengthen himself in the Lord (1 Sam 30:6). Furthermore, he was able to experience God as his special protector. The Lord was his rock and fortress. He was also his shield and stronghold. He delivered and saved him with great power. He was able to discover God in so many ways. He had been there for David for so many years and in such a profound manner. The Lord’s mercy and grace are clearly demonstrated in this Psalm.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
The Lord has been our strength and protector for all our life especially during this Covid19 pandemic. He has been our fortress and shield. We too can discover him in so many different ways. Sometimes, we can just reduce God to just being a God of strength. He is definitely much more than that. He is also our rock and our stronghold especially during this time of crisis. We too should be moved by the Lord’s grace and mercy for us. Let’s full-heartedly seek to respond to Him appropriately. Let’s seek to love him more, trust Him more and praise Him more.
