Text: Genesis 32: 1-2
MEDITATION
Genesis 32:1-2
1 So Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
2 When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is God’s camp.” And he called the name of that place Mahanaim.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Departing from Laban
a. Laban and Jacob parted on a formal note.
b. Their covenant, if kept, would give peace of heart and mind.
2. A good start
a. Jacob saw “the angels of God”.
b. They met him.
i. To give assurance of God’s presence.
ii. To give encouragement to trust in God’s protection.
iii. This was the second time that he had an encounter with angels.
3. Jacob’s response
a. He took heart and found comfort.
b. He called the place “Mahanaim”.
i. The angels of God had encamped near by.
ii. Their presence reminded him of God’s presence.
It was as if God Himself had camped nearby.
4. Gracious provision by God
a. He knew what lay ahead of Jacob.
b. He knew the fears that Jacob had in his heart.
i. He had feared confrontation with Laban.
ii. He also had deep fears about returning to Canaan and facing Esau.
