MEDITATION
Genesis 33:4-5
4 But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
5 And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and children, and said, “Who are these with you?” So he said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. An unexpected turn of events
a. Jacob had feared the worst.
b. He had prepared for disaster to befall his family.
c. But the unexpected occurred.
2. Esau’s surprising attitude
a. He ran to Jacob.
b. He embraced his long-lost brother.
c. He kissed Jacob, his twin-brother.
3. Tears came
a. This was an unexpected reunion.
b. Both feelings of relief and gladness were felt deeply.
4. Esau’s questions
a. Who were these people with Jacob.
b. They obviously had not been in touch with each other for all these years.
5. Jacob’s answer
a. He explained.
The women were his wives. The younger ones were his children.
b. He added.
It was God who had given all these to Jacob. He continued to speak humbly to Esau.
He called himself “a servant” with deference to Esau.
