MEDITATION
Genesis 33:6-7
6 Then the maidservants came near, they and their children, and bowed down.
7 And Leah also came near with her children, and they bowed down. Afterward Joseph and Rachel came near, and they bowed down.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Out of touch for many years
a. Jacob had not kept in touch with Esau for more than 20 years.
b. Jacob did not want Esau to know where he went out of fear of revenge.
c. Over the years, their mother Rebekah had died.
2. Presentation of Jacob’s family to Esau
a. The maidservants (Bilhah, Rachel’s maidservant; Zilpah, Leah’s maidservant)
i. If they were merely maidservants they would not have been presented.
ii. But they had borne children to Jacob and thus they and their children were formally introduced to Esau.
iii. They bowed down to Esau, giving to him humble respect.
b. Leah and her children were presented next.
i. Leah was the first official wife of Jacob.
ii. She and her children were presented to Esau next.
iii. They too bowed to Esau, according him respect and honour, humbly.
c. Joseph and Rachel
i. Rachel was the wife that Jacob loved especially.
ii. Joseph obviously enjoyed a special place in Jacob’s heart.
iii. Joseph was mentioned by name, twice.
iv. They too showed deference to Esau and they bowed to him too.
