Text: Genesis 33: 10-11
MEDITATION
Genesis 33:10-11
10 And Jacob said, “No, please, if I have now found favour in your sight, then receive my present from my hand, inasmuch as I have seen your face as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me.
11 Please, take my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” So he urged him, and he took it.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Jacob’s word to Esau
a. The gift
It was a present to Esau.
b. To express joy
He was really happy just to see Esau again.
c. Connection
Esau was his twin-brother and for the first time they connected as brothers.
d. Seeing the face of Esau
i. To see Esau’s face was like seeing the face of God!
ii. If Esau was pleased with Jacob, it would be like God was pleased with him
2. The blessing of God
a. A gift / a present expresses the blessing of God.
b. God had indeed dealt graciously with him.
c. He was penniless when he started out; now, he can give such a huge present
This surely illustrated God’s blessing!
3. Contentment
a. There was a time when Jacob was not contented.
He was not the first-born. He envied Esau.
b. Now, he had learned true contentment and he could say, “I have enough.”
4. Esau accepted Jacob’s explanation and he took the flocks and herds as a gift.
