Text: Genesis 33: 18-20
MEDITATION
Genesis 33:18-20
18 Then Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city.
19 And he bought the parcel of land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money.
20 Then he erected an altar there and called it El Elohe Israel.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. City of Shechem, in the land of Canaan
a. He had finally arrived in Canaan.
b. The long journey from Padan Aram was over.
c. He pitched his tent outside the city.
d. Shechem was where Abraham first lived when he came to Canaan (Genesis 12:6).
2. Purchase of land
a. He bought the parcel of land from Hamor.
b. Shechem was also the name of the son of Hamor.
c. One hundred pieces of money (unknown quantity), but it was a considerable amount.
3. Erecting of an altar
a. Like Abraham and Isaac, Jacob also erected an altar:
i. To acknowledge God’s help.
ii. To offer worship.
iii. To express thanksgiving.
b. El Elohe Israel
i. “El” means “God”.
ii. “Elohe Israel” means “The God of Israel”.
iii. “Israel” the new name that God gave to Jacob. He used his new name.

19就用一百块银子向示剑的父亲哈抹的子孙买了支帐篷的那块地,20在那里筑了一座坛,起名叫伊利伊罗伊以色列。
