Text: Genesis 35: 21-26

MEDITATION

Genesis 35:21-26

21 Then Israel journeyed and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.
22 And it happened, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine; and Israel heard about it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
23 the sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;
24 the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin;
25 the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maidservant, were Dan and Naphtali;
26 and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Padan Aram.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. Jacob to Israel

a. Israel was the name God gave to Jacob.
b. Both names were used interchangeably.

2. A sad incident

a. Reuben was the firstborn son.
b. He went to lay with Bilhah (Rachel’s maid..
c. In this sin, he showed great disregard:
i. For his father, Jacob.
ii. For Bilhah.

3. The Twelve sons of Jacob

a. Leah’s sons (Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun)
b. Rachel’s sons (Joseph and Benjamin)
c. Bilhah’s sons (the maid of Rachel, were Dan and Naphthali.
d. Zilpah’s sons (the maid of Leah, were Gad and Asher)

4. Dinah was not mentioned, though her birth was noted (Genesis 30:21).

5. All the sons were born in Padan Aram, except for Benjamin.

2. 不幸的事件

a. 鲁本是雅各的长子
b. 鲁本与辟拉同寝（拉结的使女）
c. 他犯此罪时，不尊敬：
i. 他的父亲，雅各
ii. 辟拉

3. 雅各的十二个儿子

a. 利亚的儿子们（鲁本，西缅、利未、犹大、以萨迦、西布伦）
b. 拉结的儿子们（约瑟，便雅悯）
c. 辟拉的儿子们（拉结的使女辟拉所生的是但、拿弗他利）
d. 悉帕的儿子们 （利亚的使女悉帕所生的是迦得、亚设）
