MEDITATION
Genesis 38:1-5
1 It came to pass at that time that Judah departed from his brothers, and visited a certain Adullamite whose name was Hirah.
2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua, and he married her and went in to her.
3 So she conceived and bore a son, and he called his name Er.
4 She conceived again and bore a son, and she called his name Onan.
5 And she conceived yet again and bore a son, and called his name Shelah. He was at Chezib when she bore him.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The story of Judah
a. The focus is on Judah.
b. He was the fourth son from Leah, the first wife of Jacob.
2. The friends of Judah
a. He had his own circle of acquaintances.
b. He left his own family circle and found friendship among the Canaanites.
3. Adullam
a. It was well known for the caves that offered protection.
It was within the land of Canaan.
b. Hirah was a Canaanite acquaintance.
4. Judah’s marriage to Shua
a. He chose to be married to a Canaanite woman.
b. From this union, he had three sons:
i. Er
ii. Onan
iii. Shelah
5. Chezib
a. This was a town near Adullam.
b. Judah was in this town when Shelah, the third son was born.
