"Who committed no sin"

Text: 1 Peter 2:22

THE PROPHETIC SCRIPTURE

The Apostle Peter once again cited the Scriptures to explain why Jesus accepted His suffering so patiently.

“Who committed no sin,
Nor was deceit found in His mouth”
1 Peter 2:22

1. How sin may be committed

a) If one were to neglect any commandment of the Lord, this would be the sin of omission.
b) If one were to break the laws of God wilfully, this would be the sin of commission (transgression or trespass).
c) If one were to harbour any evil within the heart, this would be iniquity.

2. The prophecy from Isaiah (Isaiah 53)

a) Peter cited Isaiah 53:9.
b) This prophetic word described the suffering of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ.
c) He would suffer and bear the iniquities of mankind (Isaiah 53:11).

3. “Who committed no sin”

a) The life of Jesus was totally sinless.
b) This would be perfect description of the life of the Lord Jesus Christ.
c) Only because He was sinless could He be:
i) The perfect lamb that takes away the sin of the world.
ii) The One who could atone for our sins.

4. “Nor was deceit found in His mouth”

a) The enemies tried very hard to see if they could catch Jesus with His words (Matthew 22:15; Mark 12:13; Luke 20:20).
b) They failed completely.
c) There was never deceit at any time.
i) His Father instructed Him and bore witness (John 5:19-20, 37).
ii) The works of Jesus bore testimony of Him (John 5:36).
iii) The Scriptures bore testimony of Him (John 5:39).
