Text: Genesis 42: 29-34

MEDITATION

Genesis 42:29-34

29 Then they went to Jacob their father in the land of Canaan and told him all that had happened to them, saying:
30 “The man who is lord of the land spoke roughly to us, and took us for spies of the country.
31 But we said to him, ‘We are honest men; we are not spies.
32 We are twelve brothers, sons of our father; one is no more, and the youngest is with our father this day in the land of Canaan.’
33 Then the man, the lord of the country, said to us, ‘By this I will know that you are honest men: Leave one of your brothers here with me, take food for the famine of your households, and be gone.
34 And bring your youngest brother to me; so I shall know that you are not spies, but that you are honest men. I will grant your brother to you, and you may trade in the land.’”

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. Back to Canaan

a. The brothers had come back safely to Canaan.
b. They recounted their trip to Egypt to their father Jacob.

2. Their description of Joseph

a. He was the lord of the land.
b. He had spoken to them roughly.
c. He had charged them for being spies.

3. Their protest to Joseph

a. They were honest men.
b. They denied that they were spies.
c. They disclosed that they were twelve brothers.
d. One was at home and one was no more.

4. The command of Joseph

a. They will be allowed to return home with food supplies.
b. But they must return with their youngest sibling.
c. If they were to comply, then they would be allowed to trade in Egypt.

《创世记 42：29-34》
29他们来到迦南地他们的父亲雅各那里，将所遭遇的事都告诉他，说：
30“那地的主对我们说严厉的话，把我们当做窥探那地的奸细。
31我们对他说：‘我们是诚实人，并不是奸细。
32我们本是弟兄十二人，都是一个父亲的儿子，有一个没有了，顶小的如今同我们的父亲在迦南地。’
33那地的主对我们说：‘若要我知道你们是诚实人，可以留下你们中间的一个人在我这里，你们可以带着粮食回去，救你们家里的饥荒。

34把你们的小兄弟带到我这里来，我便知道你们不是奸细，乃是诚实人。这样，我就把你们的弟兄交给你们，你们也可以在这地做买卖。’”

1. 回到迦南

a. 弟兄们安全地回到迦南
b. 他们把前往埃及途中所遭遇的事告诉了父亲雅阁

2. 他们如何形容约瑟

a. 他是那地的主
b. 他对弟兄们说严厉的话

4. 约瑟的命令

b. 但他们得把他们的小兄弟带到约瑟那里来
c. 若他们遵守条件，他们就可以在埃及做买卖
