THE CITY OF THE GREAT KING
It was King David who made Jerusalem the capital city;
He built a citadel to offer to all who dwelt there, safely.
He chose well, for the city was situated in a high region;
The land was known for his many beautiful mountains.
Solomon built a Temple and dedicated it to God;
This was designed to offer worship to the LORD.
God blessed the nation and the Temple;
He promised to hear prayers from Heaven.
Zion became the symbolic name preferred;
The city of God was greatly treasured.
The thought that God dwelt in Zion,
Brought joy with the deepest emotions.
Zion was called the city of the great King;
The mere thought of Zion caused rejoicing.
The LORD would be a Refuge and a Shelter;
His Presence was to be a National Treasure.
