"To brotherly kindness love"

Text: 2 Peter 1:7

MORE FEATURES TO CULTIVATE

When children grow up well, great delight is found. Growth always brings a special sense of well-being. Spiritual growth is something we must also take delight in.

“To godliness brotherly kindness,
and to brotherly kindness love.”
2 Peter 1:7

1. A quick review of what we need to add:

a) Faith

b) Virtue (moral excellence)

c) Knowledge

d) Self-control

e) Perseverance

f) Godliness (reverence)

2. The next set of features:

a) “Brotherly kindness”

i) It describes the ability to look at believers as brethren.

ii) And because of this, a good and natural sense of love wells up.

iii) This is the kind of love that reaches out to people.

b) “Love”

i) The best definition of “love” is to be traced back to God.
His kind of love expresses itself in being able to give (John 3:16).

ii) It is demonstrated by the Lord Jesus who gave His life (John 15:13).

iii) God’s kind of love lasts forever (John 13:1).

iv) We are commanded to love as we have been loved (John 13:34-35).

v) We learn to love this way because God first loved us (1 John 4:7-13).

SEVEN BASIC FEATURES

Peter singled out seven basic features of a meaningful Christian life. These features ought to be given due consideration by every believer who has escaped from the corruption that is in the world. Every believer should seek grace as he endeavours to grow in his knowledge of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord will help us to cultivate our life!
