"The everlasting kingdom"

Text: 2 Peter 1:11

THE KINGDOM OF GOD

When the Lord Jesus began His public ministry, He preached about the kingdom of God (Matthew 4:17; Mark 1:15). Many flocked to Jesus to be healed. But few fully appreciated what it means to enter into the kingdom of Heaven. The Apostle Peter also struggled with understanding the full significance of God’s kingdom when he was a disciple following the Lord Jesus Christ. It wasn’t till years later that he came to appreciate the privilege of being admitted into the kingdom of Christ.

“For so an entrance
will be supplied to you abundantly
into the everlasting kingdom
of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
2 Peter 1:11

1. “For so an entrance”

a) Entrance into the kingdom of God is through being “born again” (John 3:3).

b) Upon believing and receiving Jesus as the Saviour, the believer is given the privilege of being a child of God (John 1:12).

2. “Will be supplied to you abundantly”

a) Our entrance into the Kingdom of God is a very significant thing.

b) The word “supplied” as it applies to us.

i) It was translated “add” (2 Peter 1:5).

ii) This word may be used to describe what we need to do to add to our faith.

c) The word “supplied” as it applies to God.

i) This was Peter’s focus in this text.

ii) He wrote about God’s supplies.

3. The abundant blessings God has supplied when we entered into the kingdom of God

a) The Holy Spirit is given to us.

b) God’s power will keep us.

c) He has given us great and precious promises.

d) Grace and peace will be multiplied as we grow in our knowledge of God.

(This is a short list of how God has supplied or added to our life after we became His children.)

4. “Into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ”

a) The kingdom of God is an everlasting one.

b) This kingdom is that of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

c) Let us be challenged to:

i) Appreciate God’s Kingdom.

ii) Make appropriate efforts to grow our faith and our life.
