MEDITATION

Genesis 48:3-5

3 Then Jacob said to Joseph: “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me,
4 and said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a multitude of people, and give this land to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.’
5 And now your two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. A meaningful visit

a. Jacob appreciated this special moment with his son, Joseph.

b. He chose to speak about God and His promises.

c. There was no better subject to talk about.

2. Recalling special moments of life

a. The appearance of God Almighty at Luz, which he renamed as Bethel (Genesis 28).

b. The promises of God remembered:

i. Jacob would be fruitful and multiply.

ii. The family would become a multitude.

iii. He would give the land of Canaan to him and his descendants as an everlasting possession.

3. The two sons of Joseph

a. Joseph had married an Egyptian.

b. They had two sons in the marriage:

i. Manasseh

ii. Ephraim

They would be the grandsons of Jacob.

4. Special elevation of status

a. Jacob elevated the status of his grandchildren to the rank of his own children.

b. They would now be on par with his other sons like Reuben and Simeon.
