REVIEWING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE WILL OF GOD

Time really flies. We are now into the last two months of the year. It is a good habit to take a moment to review our own spiritual walk. How are we living our lives for the Lord? How much of our understanding of His will have we translated to life and in relating to each other as in church? The apostle wrote of the challenge to understand the will of God.

“But understand what the will of the Lord is.”
Ephesians 5:17

The word “understand” has the idea of “knowing” and “practising”. There is a maturity of comprehending what His will is for us. There is a deeper knowledge of His will and how to go about practising it. Are we truly maturing in our understanding or are we still not growing as much? Let’s take time to review our knowledge and practice of the will of God.

ARE WE WALKING THE WALK?

Every time we do a reality check concerning our walk of life, it can be most humbling. Let’s seek to do it with all honesty. Let’s reflect on this with these questions in mind.

1. ARE WE WALKING WITH A HEART OF LOVE?

“And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us”
Ephesians 5:2

The Lord Jesus greatly loved us and demonstrated it by atoning for our sins through His sacrificial death on the cross. This amazing deed of selflessness should always be greatly appreciated in our hearts and should compel us to love others. Theoretically, we may understand these truths, but what is the real state of our hearts? Are we loving the Lord and His people the way we should or are our hearts preoccupied and distracted by the world?

2. ARE WE WALKING IN THE PATH OF LIGHT?

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light”
Ephesians 5:8

Walking as children of light has the idea of living out our lives as obedient children of God. We are to walk in the path of light and not in darkness. We are to get down to practising the fruit of the Spirit: goodness, righteousness and truth. If our hearts are not focused on the Lord and love is lacking, it will be hard to walk this walk. Are we walking in the light and the Spirit or are we allowing ourselves to walk between light and darkness?

3. ARE WE LIVING AND MAKING WISE CHOICES EACH DAY?

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Ephesians 5:15

Another thing that we want to consider is whether we are wiser this year. The challenge is to ensure that we walk in love, in the light and in wisdom. We need to use our time prudently. The reason is because the evil one and his demons are hard at work, knowing they have a limited time on earth. Our challenge is to take time to understand the will of God and choose to do it. Young people, how has this year been for you? Are you living your life more carefully with wisdom? The holidays are just around the corner. Let’s take heed how we use them. Do plan to come for our Youth Conference 2020 or to listen online. Let’s seek to understand His will further, know it and to practise it well.
