MEDITATION
Genesis 49:19-21
19 “Gad, a troop shall tramp upon him,
But he shall triumph at last.
20 “Bread from Asher shall be rich,
And he shall yield royal dainties.
21 “Naphtali is a deer let loose;
He uses beautiful words.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Gad
a. Gad was the first son of Zilpah, the maid of Leah.
b. Leah wanted to have more children, in the hope that she would be more loved.
c. Future of Gad:
i. His tribe would be attacked by marauders.
ii. But in the end, he would prevail.
2. Asher
a. Asher was the second son of Zilpah, Leah’s maid.
b. His name means “blessed” or “happy” to reflect Leah’s happiness.
c. Asher would be blessed with wealth and would feast on dainty things.
3. Naphtali
a. Naphtali was the second son of Bilhah, the maid of Rachel.
b. His brother was Dan.
c. The future of Naphtali:
i. He is quite the opposite of Gad who allowed himself to be conquered.
ii. Naphtali would be swift-footed like the deer.
iii. Being alert, Naphtali would not be caught easily.
iv. He would have a way with words (he could speak of avoiding enemies).
