Text: Genesis 50: 7-11

MEDITATION

Genesis 50:7-11

7 So Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,
8 as well as all the house of Joseph, his brothers, and his father’s house. Only their little ones, their flocks, and their herds they left in the land of Goshen.
9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen, and it was a very great gathering.
10 Then they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and they mourned there with a great and very solemn lamentation. He observed seven days of mourning for his father.
11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “This is a deep mourning of the Egyptians.” Therefore its name was called Abel Mizraim, which is beyond the Jordan.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. The mourning entourage (family)

a. Joseph
b. His brothers
c. His father’s house (other relatives or servants)

2. The mourning entourage (official)

a. The servants of Pharaoh
b. The elders of his house (senior servants)
c. The elders of the land of Egypt (Because of the high rank of Joseph)

3. Those who did not go to Canaan

a. The little children
b. Flocks and herds

4. A royal send-off

a. Chariots and horsemen
b. A great gathering

5. Another seven days of mourning

a. They had now crossed beyond Jordan.
b. A week of mourning was ordered.

6. On-lookers from Canaan

a. They noted the great mourning procession.
b. They called it “Abel Mizraim”.
Meaning, “The great mourning of the Egyptians.”

《创世记 50：7-11》
7 于是约瑟上去葬他父亲。与他一同上去的，有法老的臣仆和法老家中的长老，并埃及国的长老；
8 还有约瑟的全家和他的弟兄们，并他父亲的眷属，只有他们的妇人孩子和羊群牛群都留在歌珊地；
9 又有车辆马兵和他一同上去。那一帮人甚多。
10 他们到了约旦河外亚达的禾场，就在那里大大地号啕痛哭。约瑟为他父亲哀哭了七天。

11 迦南的居民见亚达禾场上的哀哭，就说：“这是埃及人一场大的哀哭。”因此那地方名叫亚伯麦西，是在约旦河东。

在生活里有意义地应用

1. 送葬队伍 （家属）
