The Pursuit Of Wisdom (I)

There are many reasons why we should pursue wisdom. Obtaining wisdom helps us to be prudent and discerning. It teaches us to reject the way of sin and darkness. Instruction and wisdom guide us how to fear the Lord and to choose to walk in the ways of righteousness. They also help us to find safety, security and be specially blessed by the Lord. These are just some reasons why we should pursue wisdom. Solomon challenged his readers to really understand what it meant to seek wisdom. Let’s look at some stages.
1. Receiving and treasuring the words of wisdom
My son, if you receive my words and treasure my commands within you…” Prov. 2:1
It is important that we look at the way we regard the words of wisdom. When words of wisdom are taught to us, our challenge is to receive them well. There must be the proper regard for these lessons taught. They are not just words. They are to be highly regarded as commands from the Lord and from one who is truly wise. These commands are to be treasured within us. We are to hide them within our hearts. They are to be regarded as precious and they are to abide within us.
2. Listening and application of the heart to words of wisdom
So that you incline your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding…” Prov. 2:2
Because the words taught are words of wisdom and understanding, we should specially pay attention to them. We should put our heart into hearing them. There should also be the application of the heart to what we have learnt. Our heart is meant to turn from that which is foolish to that which is considered wise and prudent. Words of wisdom are to be applied in our life and in all that we do.
Youth Conference 2020 will begin this coming Monday. Words of wisdom and understanding would be specially taught to us. Let’s seek to incline our ears and seek to apply our hearts to what is being taught. Let’s learn well from the many Bible study lessons and let’s apply them to our life.
