The Challenge To Review Our Life

It is imperative that we take time to review our life continually if we want to change personally. This was one of the important lessons that Pastor taught during the Youth Conference. Very often, we begin with the desire to want to learn and to change our life. We appear to make some advancements in terms of faith and life. However, we soon become stuck spiritually and we do not know how to get out of the rut. The challenge from Pastor was to take time to practise the principle of review with reference to our life.
1. Review of one’s life (1 Sam. 12:2-3)
Samuel had lived his life from childhood as a servant of the Lord. At no time, had he taken anything from anyone. He had lived his life with faithfulness to God and with great integrity.
2. Review of God’s work (1 Sam. 12:6-12)
It was the Lord who had led and blessed Israel all those years from coming out of Egypt to where they were as a nation.
3. Review of the people of Israel (1 Sam. 12:16-20)
The people had done wickedly by seeking to ask for a king. They insisted on having their own way. The prophet Samuel was very direct and frank about his review of the people of Israel.
THE WAY TO REVIEW OUR LIFE
There are a few things that we need to do as we review our life each week.
1. Review with all honesty.
Let’s not hide anything before the Lord as we review. It is good to be honest before Him and look at the problem areas in our life.
2. Review with reference to God and His word
It is vital that we review our life in the light of the character of God and the truths of His word.
3. Review with personal accountability
We have to be accountable to God for our life and consider carefully where change is needed.
4. Review with prayer and personal commitment to change for the better
The review ultimately is to help us realise how much we need the Lord further as we seek to grow in faith. Let’s pray and ask the Lord to transform us. Let’s determine to put in more effort and rely on His grace to change for the better.
