Text: Exodus 3: 18-19
MEDITATION
Exodus 3:18-19
18 Then they will heed your voice; and you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, ‘The LORD God of the Hebrews has met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.’
19 But I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not even by a mighty hand.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Response of the children
a. God encouraged Moses to trust.
b. The elders of Israel will heed his voice ultimately.
2. Going to see the Pharaoh
a. Moses need not go alone to see the Pharaoh.
b. The elders could go with him.
3. Presenting a formal request to the Pharaoh
a. To declare that the LORD God of the Hebrews had spoken to his people.
b. They would like to formally worship Him and to offer sacrifices.
c. They would be taking a three-day journey to have this worship.
4. The response of the Pharaoh to such a request
a. God forewarned Moses of the Pharaoh’s response.
b. He would reject this request outright.
c. The Pharaoh’s might:
i. Egypt was a mighty power in those days.
ii. None of the neighbouring countries was as strong as Egypt.
iii. He would never accede to any request.
iv. The only way he would heed is to see someone who is mightier.
