Text: Exodus 4: 21-23
MEDITATION
Exodus 4:21-23
21 And the LORD said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do all those wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in your hand. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go.
22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Israel is My son, My firstborn.
23 So I say to you, let My son go that he may serve Me. But if you refuse to let him go, indeed I will kill your son, your firstborn.”’”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. A reminder from God
a. Moses must perform all the wonders before Pharaoh.
b. However, Pharaoh would offer strong resistance.
2. God’s involvement
a. He would be there to help Moses carry out his mission.
b. God would also “harden” the heart of the Pharaoh.
c. He would not let the children of Israel leave Egypt easily.
3. Things to say to Pharaoh
a. Israel
i. He is called God’s son.
ii. He is called “the firstborn son”.
iii. This is to inform Pharaoh that God loved the children of Israel.
b. Word to Pharaoh
i. He must let the children of Israel go from the land of Egypt.
ii. They are His people, His son.
iii. They will serve the LORD and not Egypt or the Pharaoh.
c. Warning to Pharaoh
i. If Pharaoh were to refuse to obey this word, there would be severe consequences.
ii. If Pharaoh were to go into battle with God, he would surely be defeated.
iii. Pharaoh’s own firstborn could die as a result of resisting God.

21耶和华对摩西说:“你回到埃及的时候,要留意将我指示你的一切奇事行在法老面前。但我要使他的心刚硬,他必不容百姓去。
22你要对法老说:‘耶和华这样说:以色列是我的儿子,我的长子。23我对你说过容我的儿子去,好侍奉我,你还是不肯容他去。看哪,我要杀你的长子。’”
