"I have seen the God-given task..."

Text: Ecclesiastes 3:10

GOD-GIVEN TASKS

Solomon has made many observations of life. There were so many paradoxes in life. With all his wisdom, he could not but ask if there was some way one could fathom the “God-given task(s)” of life!

“What profit has the worker from that in which he labours?
I have seen the God-given task
with which the sons of men are to be occupied.”
Ecclesiastes 3:9-10

1. “What profit has the worker from that in which he labours?”

a) Profiting from one’s labour:
i) This is reasonable.
ii) A labourer is worthy of his hire.
b) But what if the profit:
i) Is limited?
ii) Is not lasting?
iii) Is snatched away by robbers?
iv) Is destroyed because of war?

2. “I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied”

a) The word “seen” involves the following nuances:
i) Careful observations
ii) Diligent research
b) Some thoughts:
i) Man cannot stop working.
ii) The whole world will be adversely affected.
iii) Man somehow feels compelled to work.
iv) Each one has his own motivation, but he will end up working.

3. What if this is a God-given thing?

a) A “God-given task”
i) It could be a very good thing.
ii) Many have worked because they feel inspired.
b) It is good to explore this thought.
i) That we are here on earth to fulfil a “God-given task.”
ii) That we are especially equipped by God to fulfil the task He has given.
