THE WORD OF GOD AS A NEVER–ENDING SOURCE OF WISDOM
There is great benefit from reading and knowing the Scriptures. Not only does it have the power to change lives, it can also give wisdom to all who seek it.
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” Psalm 19:7
The word of God is an unending source of wisdom for all.
1. Because of the infallibility of the word
Some parts of the Scriptures were called “testimonies”. They testify and bear witness of the Lord and what He has done. They testify of how great the word of God is. It is more desired than gold and sweeter than honey and the honey comb (Psalm 19:10). It has been proven as true and steadfast. The word “sure” means that the word is infallible. It will stand the test of time.
2. Because of the insightful wisdom that the word gives
The word of God can profoundly affect the mind of a person. The “simple” is a reference to the person who is naïve and unlearned. Because the Scriptures is a great source of wisdom, it can ceaselessly give prudence and discernment to the naïve and undiscerning. It helps a person to have the humility to be wise. From a person who greatly lacks understanding, with wisdom from the Scriptures, he can become wise and be blessed by God.
BECOMING WISE IN LIFE
The book of Proverbs is a great source of wisdom with reference to practical living. It gives prudence to the simple (Prov. 1:4). The challenge is for us to seek after it. Let’s look at the aspects of seeking wisdom.
1. To receive and treasure the words of wisdom (Prov. 2:1)
2. To apply our heart to understanding (Prov. 2:2.)
3. To cry out in prayer for discernment and understanding (Prov. 2:3.)
4. To spare no effort in seeking for wisdom as great treasures (Prov. 2:4)
When we seek for wisdom in such a manner, wisdom will preserve us and make us dwell in safety. It will cause us not to take any unnecessary risks. It will help us walk in righteousness and truth. Young people, let’s diligently seek wisdom from the Scriptures. Let seek to be people of prudence and discernment.
