GOD WILLED TO MAKE KNOWN

Text: Colossians 1

GOD’S WILL REVEALED

The Apostle Paul significantly wrote about the revealed will of God.

24 I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, 

25 of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, 

26 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 

27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 

28 Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. 

29 To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.     Colossians 1:24-19

SUMMARY OF PAUL’S TEACHING ABOUT GOD’S REVEALED WILL

There are many lines of thought in this paragraph. The following may be summarised this way.

  1. Mystery of God’s Will

a) His profound Will was hidden 

i) From past ages

ii) From generations

b) Some prophets had glimpses

c) But none had full comprehension

  1. Revelation of God’s Will

a) Revealed to God’s saints

b) The word “saint” describes every true believer

c) This included Gentile believers

  1. Paul as a servant of God

a) He was committed to preaching the revealed Will of God

b) He described it as “the riches of His glory”

c) His challenge

i) To preach

ii) To teach

iii) To present every believer “mature” (“perfect”  NKJV) 

iv) To labour as the Lord empowered

  1. The cornerstone

a) It is “Christ in you, the hope of glory”

b) The Lord Jesus indwells every believer!

c) This is truly an astounding truth!

OUR CHALLENGE

Let us grow in our knowledge of the Will of God! This has already been revealed in the Scriptures!
