Text: Exodus 23: 6-8
MEDITATION
Exodus 23:6-8
6 “You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor in his dispute.
7 Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked.
8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Strict orders given I
a. The plight of the poor must be given full consideration.
b. The poor must be given full justice.
c. There must be no perversion of judgment in a dispute.
2. Strict orders given II
a. Concerning the “innocent and righteous”.
b. All must keep away from anything that is false.
c. The innocent and righteous are not to end up killed by the law.
d. The wicked would not be justified in any way by the Lord.
3. Bribery
a. This is out of the question.
b. What bribery often does:
i. It blinds the discerning.
ii. It perverts the words of the righteous.
UPHOLDING JUSTICE IN THE LAND
1. The law courts must uphold justice.
2. All officers of the law must protect the innocent and the righteous.
3. Every citizen must seek to practise what is good and just in the sight of God.
