MEDITATION
Exodus 23:12
12 Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The Sabbath Day
a. It was based on a principle.
b. This was made a law for Israel.
2. Clear instructions
a. A six-day work week.
b. The seventh day would be the Sabbath.
c. The meaning of the word “Sabbath”. It simply means “rest!”
3. The Sabbath Day law
a. This was an entitlement.
b. Thought must be given to work animals:
i. The ox
ii. The donkey
c. Thought must also be extended to workers:
i. The servant (male/ female).
ii. Also, to the son of the female servant.
iii. The stranger (the worker who may be hired).
4. “Rest”
a. The body needs to be rested.
b. It is through rest that one becomes refreshed.
c. The Sabbath Day law:
i. It must be understood.
ii. It must be applied from the heart.
iii. Rest must not be given grudgingly to beast or servant.
d. This law was given by the Lord Himself and it must be obeyed.
i. It was a good and kind law.
ii. It revealed a heart of compassion.
