Text: Exodus 23: 27-28
MEDITATION
Exodus 23:27-28
27 “I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.
28 And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Enemies in the land of Canaan
Three groups mentioned here. There were others.
a. Hivites
b. Canaanites
c. Hittites
These were very fierce and war-like people. They would resist the children of Israel entering what they consider their land.
2. God’s promise of help
a. He will cause the enemies to feel fear in their hearts.
b. He will cause them to be confused too.
c. They will run away from the children of Israel.
3. Sending of hornets
a. Hornets are bees.
i. They can give a very nasty sting.
ii. Hornets are feared by many.
b. God could send real hornets to afflict the inhabitants of Canaan.
c. “Hornets” could also be a symbolic reference:
i. Of God’s help
ii. Of God’s power
The LORD God will help the children of Israel to conquer the land somehow.
