Text: Exodus 23: 31-33
MEDITATION
Exodus 23:31-33
31 And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.
32 You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.
33 They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Boundaries for the nation of Israel
a. Boundaries are necessary.
b. They mark the geographical extent of the land.
c. Israel may defend its country.
d. But it must also respect other lands that lie on their borders.
2. The inhabitants in the land
a. God’s part
God will deliver them to Israel.
b. Israel’s part
It is to drive them out of their land.
3. No covenant with the inhabitants of the land
a. Covenants always involved the gods of the nations.
b. Thus, Israel must make no covenants with them.
c. For this would mean acknowledging their gods.
4. They must not dwell in the land of Canaan
a. The nations would end up corrupting Israel.
b. They would cause Israel to sin against God.
c. Israel would end up serving their gods.
Any covenant with the nations in Canaan would become a snare to Israel.

31我要定你的境界,从红海直到非利士海,又从旷野直到大河。我要将那地的居民交在你手中,你要将他们从你面前撵出去。
