MEDITATION
Exodus 24:6-8
6 And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar.
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient.”
8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these words.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The blood of the sacrificed animals
a. This was collected and put into basins.
b. Half of the blood collected was sprinkled on the altar.
2. The significance of the sprinkling of the blood on the altar
a. Blood represents life (Leviticus 17:11).
b. This was of great symbolic significance.
c. The covenant with God was established in blood.
3. The significance of the sprinkling of blood on the people
a. This was called “the blood of the covenant”.
b. God and His people were joined together in a sacred covenant.
4. The reading of the Book of the Covenant
a. This was read to all the people who were there on the mountain.
b. The Ten Commandments would be included in the Book of the Covenant.
c. Other laws would have been read too (e.g. Exodus 22-23).
5. The response of the people
a. They promised to keep the Laws in the Book of the Covenant read to them.
b. This was a very special and sacred moment in the history of Israel.
c. This special act sealed the Covenant relationship between God and Israel.
