INTRODUCTION

1. The Lord Jesus promised us “life more abundantly”   (John 10:10)

2. The Lord Jesus taught many lessons about the Christian life in the Gospels

DEALING WITH THE PROBLEM OF WORRYING

1. Many of us struggle with the problem of worrying

a. We can worry about almost anything in life
b. Worrying will affect us
i. Mentally
ii. Emotionally
iii. Physically
iv. Spiritually

2. An important lesson of life that the Lord Jesus taught

a. “Do not worry”   (Matthew 6:25)
b. “Why do you worry?”   (Matthew 6:28)
c. “Therefore do not worry”   (Matthew 6:31)
d. “Therefore do not worry”   (Matthew 6:34)

HAVING HEARTS THAT ARE FOCUSED ON HEAVEN

1. Life on earth   (Matthew 6:19)

a. The things of earth can be destroyed and lost
b. Our life on earth will one day come to an end

2. Life in Heaven   (Matthew 6:20)

a. Heavenly / spiritual things will never be destroyed or lost
b. We have an everlasting life in Heaven

3. The focus that we ought to have in our hearts   (Matthew 6:21)

a. To not value or seek after the things of this world
b. But to treasure and seek after heavenly / spiritual things

EXERCISING FAITH IN OUR HEAVENLY FATHER

1. Our Heavenly Father

a. He feeds the birds   (Matthew 6:25-27)
Are we, being His children, not of more value than birds?

b. He clothes the lilies   (Matthew 6:28-30)

Will He not much more provide for His children?

2. Exercising faith in our Heavenly Father

a. We are His precious children
i. He gives us everlasting life when we believe in the Lord Jesus
ii. He will definitely provide for us in this earthly life
b. We should not be “of little faith”!   (Matthew 6:30)

OUR CHALLENGE

1. To not worry

a. To stop worrying
b. To not allow worrying to come into our lives

2. To seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness   (Matthew 6:33a)

a. As our focus
b. As our treasure

3. To believe in our Heavenly Father

a. He knows the things that we need in life   (Matthew 6:32b)
b. He will provide for all our needs   (Matthew 6:33b)
c. Our faith is to be exercised each day   (Matthew 6:34)
