Text: Exodus 30: 34-38

MEDITATION

Exodus 30:34-38

34 And the LORD said to Moses: “Take sweet spices, stacte and onycha and galbanum, and pure frankincense with these sweet spices; there shall be equal amounts of each.
35 You shall make of these an incense, a compound according to the art of the perfumer, salted, pure, and holy.
36 And you shall beat some of it very fine, and put some of it before the Testimony in the tabernacle of meeting where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you.
37 But as for the incense which you shall make, you shall not make any for yourselves, according to its composition. It shall be to you holy for the LORD.
38 Whoever makes any like it, to smell it, he shall be cut off from his people.”

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. The making of Incense

a. This was to be offered to the Lord.
b. It would represent devotion and prayer.

2. The ingredients

a. Sweet spices
b. Stacte, onycha and galbanum
These are different types of gum resin
c. Pure frankincense (also a resin)
d. They are to be combined to make the incense.

3. The incense is to be regarded as “most holy”

a. It is dedicated to the Lord.
b. It is to be used exclusively for Him.

4. What is expressly forbidden

a. It cannot be made for personal use.
b. Whoever makes it for personal use would be severely dealt with.
c. He will be cut off from the congregation of Israel.

《出埃及记 30：34-38》
34 耶和华吩咐摩西说：“你要取馨香的香料，就是拿他弗、施喜列、喜利比拿，这馨香的香料和净乳香各样要一般大的分量。
35 你要用这些加上盐，按做香之法做成清净圣洁的香。
36 这香要取点捣得极细，放在会幕内法柜前，我要在那里与你相会。你们要以这香为至圣。
37 你们不可按这调和之法为自己做香，要以这香为圣，归耶和华。

38 凡做香和这香一样，为要闻香味的，这人要从民中剪除。”

在生活里有意义地应用

1. 香的制作

a. 这将要呈献给上帝
b. 这将象征奉献和祈祷

2. 材料

a. 馨香的香料
b. 拿他弗、施喜列、喜利比拿
这些是不同类型的树脂
c. 净乳香（也属于树脂）
d. 要用这些结合起来做成香

3. 要以这香为“至圣”

a. 这香是献给上帝的
b. 这香的使用是专门归于上帝的

4. 明确禁止

a. 不可按这调和之法为自己做香
b. 凡为自己做香和这香一样的，必受到严厉处置
c. 这人要从民中剪除
