Text: Luke 7: 11-17
THE CITY OF NAIN
1. Nain was about 48 km (SW) of Capernaum.
2. The city was situated on much higher ground than Capernaum.
3. It would take more than a day to walk from Capernaum to Nain.
THE FOLLOWERS
1. There were many who followed the Lord Jesus.
a. There were the 12 Apostles.
b. There were also disciples.
c. There was also a large crowd (non-disciples). {Luke 7:11}
2. The Lord allowed them
a. To follow.
b. To learn what they could.
A MOVING SCENE
1. There was a widow.
2. She had an only son.
3. He had died and this was a funeral procession with a large crowd (Luke 7:12).
COMPASSION OF THE LORD JESUS
1. The Lord Jesus felt compassion for the widow.
2. He stopped to speak to her.
“Do not weep.” Luke 7:13
3. He went to the open coffin and spoke to the dead man.“Young man, I say to you, arise.” Luke 7:14
4. Immediate response
a. The young man sat up.
b. He began to speak (Luke 7:15a).
5. A very special gift of life.
The Lord Jesus presented the young man to his mother (Luke 7:15b).
