MAKE YOUR CALL AND ELECTION SURE

TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED

We tend to take many things for granted. The Covid 19 Pandemic has certainly reminded us that we cannot take our health and our life for granted! 

TAKING OUR FAITH FOR GRANTED

This problem extends to the spiritual realm. We take our faith for granted too.

10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 

11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.     2 Peter 1:10-11

  1. Our Call and Election 

a) This was a special way of describing our salvation

b) Our Call

i) It is a Call from God to repentance

ii) It  leads us find salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ

c) Our Election

i) In deeper understanding, we learn that believers are called “Elect of God”

ii) Long before we come to faith in God, God had already chosen/elected us

  1. To make sure

a) This is to be certain of our salvation

b) We cannot earn our salvation but we can make sure of our salvation

c) To make sure:

i) It involves checking

ii) It involves confirming things

iii) It means verifying details

d) This is our part to do!

WE NEED NOT STUMBLE

We are aware that some stumble in their faith in God. The following could happen:

  1. Doubts can arise
  1. Misgivings may set in
  1. Confidence in God is eroded

The Apostle Peter tells us that we must check our understanding of salvation! If we are diligent in seeking to ascertain our faith in the Lord, we need not stumble. Let us look forward to a clear and certain faith in the Lord!
