Text: Luke 8: 49-56
A BRIEF INTERRUPTION
1. The Lord Jesus was on His way to heal the daughter of Jairus
2. But there was a brief interruption
a. A woman had touched the garment of the Lord.
b. She was healed from a chronic disease she had suffered for many years.
c. The Lord Jesus had paused and then kindly spoke to the woman.
AN URGENT MESSAGE FOR JAIRUS
1. Someone came up to Jairus with sad news
“Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher.” Luke 8:49
2. The response of the Lord Jesus to the news
a. He spoke to Jairus.
b. He had three things to say to him (Luke 8:50).
i. “Do not be afraid”
ii. “Only believe”
iii. “And she will be made well”
c. Whom should Jairus believe in?
i. The messenger with news that his daughter had died?
ii. The Lord Jesus who promised that his daughter would be well?
AT THE HOME OF JAIRUS
1. There were many people there
a. All who were there were weeping.
b. They mourned the death of Jairus’ daughter (Luke 8:52a).
2. The Lord Jesus spoke to them three words (Luke 8:52b.
a. “Do not weep”
b. “She is not dead”
c. “But sleeping”
3. The response of the people
a. They ridiculed the Lord Jesus.
b. They believed (“knowing”) she was dead (Luke 8:53).
IN THE BEDROOM OF JAIRUS’ DAUGHTER
1. The Lord Jesus was there
2. The girl’s parents were there
3. Only Peter, James and John were permitted in the room
4. The rest of the people were ushered out of the room
A SPECIAL AND TENDER MOMENT
1. The Lord Jesus took the hand of the little 12-year girl and said,
“Little girl, arise.” Luke 8:54
2. A wonderful miracle took place
a. Her spirit returned.
b. She arose immediately.
c. The Lord Jesus advised the family to give her something to eat (Luke 8:55).
d. Her parents were astonished!
They were instructed not to tell anyone what had happened! {Luke 8:56}
