Text: Luke 13: 22-24

THE MINISTRY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

“And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.”

Luke 13:22

1. This text describes the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. He ministered in:

a. Cities

b. Villages (small towns)

c. Jerusalem

3. There were 3 aspects of His ministry, one of them was highlighted here:

a. Preaching (proclaiming) the kingdom of God.

b. Healing many people; casting out demons.

c. Teaching (This aspect was highlighted here.

i. It is deeper than preaching.

ii. It involves much explanation.

iii. It sometimes involves refuting wrong ideas held by some.

iv. This is where He made Disciples.

A QUESTION RAISED UP

“Then one said to Him, ‘Lord, are there few who are saved?’ And He said to them, ‘Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.’”

Luke 13:23-24

1. “Lord, are there few who are saved?”

a. It was a valid question.

b. There were multitudes who came to the Lord Jesus.

c. These came for different reasons:

i. To hear Him preach.

ii. To ask Him for healing.

iii. To ask Him to cast out demons.

d. Some came for wrong reasons:

i. To find fault.

ii. To dispute.

iii. To entrap Him.

e. The Disciples noted that:

i. There seemed to be few Disciples.

ii. Few really wanted to learn about salvation.

2. “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.”

a. This was a candid reply.

b. His encouragement:

i. To follow Him, through “the narrow (difficult) gate”.

ii. To seek salvation; it is worth any difficulty encountered.

c. The reality of the many who try to find the way of salvation.

i. They seek an easier way.

ii. They seek their own way.

iii. They reject the way of the Lord Jesus.

3. What is the way of the Lord Jesus?

a. It is the way of Faith in Him.

b. It is expressed in Following His Life and His teaching.

ii. 很少有人真正想了解救恩

2. “你们要努力进窄门。我告诉你们：将来有许多人想要进去，却是不能。”

a. 这是一个坦率的答复

b. 祂给予的鼓励：

i. 跟随祂，通过“窄（难）门”

ii. 寻求救赎；遇到任何困难都是值得的

c. 许多人试图寻找救恩的现实

i. 他们寻求更简单的方法

ii. 他们寻求自己的方式

iii. 他们拒绝主耶稣的道

3. 主耶稣的道是什么？

a. 这是对祂的信心之道
